Thinking about it!

Coz there’s lot to be discussed…

Bilqis

I mention this song coz it mentions one my alumni from IIM Lucknow who sacrificed himself to public cause. Manjunath was someone who stood for what was right and had to pay for being honest. Rabbi’s song reminds us of people like Manjunath and Satyendra Dubey who stood for the right and showed us a way ahead. Do listen to the song.

Bilqis (Jinhe Naaz Hai)

Rabbi

Mera naam Bilqis Yakub Rasool

Mujhse hui bas ek hi bhool

Ki jab dhhundhhte thhe vo Ram ko

To maen kharhi thhi rah mein

Pehle ek ne puchha na mujhe kuchh pata thha

Dujey ko bhi mera yehi javab thha

Fir itno ne puchha ki mera ab saval hai ki

Jinhe naaz hai hind par vo kahan the

Jinhe naaz hai vo kahan hain

Mera naam shriman Satyendra Dubey

Jo kehna thha vo keh chukey

Ab parhey hain rah mein

Dil mein liye ik goli

Bas itna kasur ki hamne likha thha

Vo sach jo har kisi ki zuban thha

Par sach yahan ho jatey hain zahriley

Jinhe naaz hai hind par vo kahan the

Jinhe naaz hai vo kahan hain

Mujhe kehte hain anna Manjunath

Maine dekhi bhatakti ek laash

Zamir ki beech sarhak Lakhimpur Kherhi

Adarsh phasan jahan naaron mein

Aur chor bharey darbaron mein

Vahan maut akhlaq ki hai ik khabar baasi

Jinhe naaz hai hind par vo kahan hain

Jinhe naaz hai vo kahan hain

Mazha nau aahe Navleen Kumar

Unnees june unnees var

Unnees unnees unnees unnees

Unnees vaar

Unnees unnees unnees unnees

Unnees unnees unnees unnees

Unnees unnees unnees unnees

Unnees vaar

Looto dehaat kholo bazaar

Nallasopara aur Virar

Chheeno zameen hamse hamein

Bhejo pataal

Jinhe naaz hai hind par vo kahan hain

Jinhe naaz hai vo kahan hain

English Translation

My name is Bilqis Yakub Rasool

I committed just one mistake

That I stood in their way

When they were looking for Ram

First, one asked me but I knew nothing

Then another but my answer was the same

Then so many that now I have a question

Where are those who are proud of India

Where are those who are proud

My name gentlemen is Satyendra Dubey

I’ve already said what I wanted to say

Now I lie on the road

With a bullet in my heart

My only fault being that I wrote

A truth that was on everyone’s lips

But truth here turn poisonous

Where are those who are proud of India

Where are those who are proud

My name brother is Manjunath

I’ve seen the corpse of conscience lying

In the middle of the road at Lakhimpur Kherhi

Where ideals are stuck in slogans

And the royal courts are full of thieves

There the death of righteousness is old news

Where are those who are proud of India

Where are those who are proud

My name is Navleen Kumar

Nineteenth June and nineteen wounds

Nineteen nineteen nineteen nineteen

Nineteen wounds

Nineteen nineteen nineteen nineteen

Nineteen nineteen nineteen nineteen

Nineteen nineteen nineteen nineteen

Nineteen wounds

Loot the villages and open markets

Nallasopara & Virar

Snatch our land and send us to

Hell

Where are those who are proud of India

Where are those who are proud

The Dark Knight!

Went for a show of The Dark Knight, the new batman flick. I was just spellbound. Loved the movie. Lived so much up to the reviews in various newspapers. Solid solid acting performances, strong script, but most important brilliant characterization. Each actor in the movie has a good role to play and plays his/her’s well. The villain is like this super duper character. Somewhere in the mid of the movie, I was made to believe that such a real life villain would be extremely scary. I think this definitely is one of the finer performances off late by a character as a villain.

Batman too appears to become a stronger superhero. There is enough substance to make him come out as a hero with a purpose. He is an outlaw, someone who cannot afford to be celebrated as a hero. And he has chosen to continue to be the same outlaw. Batman’s other half, the rich Bruce Wayne is another role in which the actor fits to his best.

Action sequences are truly amazing. U gotta watchout for the shot where a huge truck is made to hang in mid air. The Batmobile converting into a bike also a really cool makeover.

All in all, a truly enjoyable action flick. Good performances, strong story line and most of all a villain that is scary. The movie does deserve a watch for sure and even a second one I would think.

And yes, The director did play his joker really well.

“The three mistakes…” – Reading it is a bigger one.

Please do not read “The three mistakes of my life”. The author ends up unnecessarily making a weird story out of nothing. It is so dumb that you never (while reading the book) find out what mistakes is the author talking about. When you do, you are left wondering why in the world did he waste so many pages to tell you the same. Sorry Mr. Bhagat, this books falls flat on its face in terms of “everything”.

I should have read some book on financial derivatives instead and even that would have interested me. (For the uninitiated I don’t understand a word of what’s there in finance books). Baah! I think even this much is undeserved publicity to the book. End of discussion.

Playtime!

Rajat Kapoor, of Vyomkesh Bakshi fame, is truly a good actor- both on screen and on the stage. Last evening, I went to India Habitat Centre to see this play titled – Me, Cash and Cruise which also stared Rajat Kapoor. Was accompanied by Rahul (actually it was his idea to go and watch a play). I couldn’t believe my ears when the lady at the reception counter told me that there were only balcony tickets available for a price of 50 bucks. I really really had to ask her again – “You said 50, did you?” The auditorium is a pretty decent one and the chairs comfortable enough. Right behind my seat was this familiar sardaar ji. I kind of liked the show (Chuppa Rustam) when it had started and could easily recognize him as Gurpaal. Obviously, there is nothing else to tell you about Gurpaal.

The play’s script did not appear to be gripping enough. The characters were definitely not powerful. What more than made up for the lackings were the performances. Pooja, Kashyap and Cruise were characters extremely well played. Cruise did a fantastic role and entertained the audience with his slapsticks (which were a part of his personality). But off and on were these multiple roles played by Rajat Kapoor and he does bring the stage to life. Rahul Da Cunha(director) would have had to cut a sorry face had he not been able to get some really strong performances. This was like a true masala play with its pangs of emotion, laughter and ‘trying to get a message through’. The laughter part was the only one when people clapped after the scene.

The play did not leave enough to be discussed, or appreciated except for the performances by all the four guys. Full credit for acting, but little for all else. I as a audience was getting confused if the story is about the changing face of Mumbai or the lives of Pooja, Cash and Cruise. Then there were some of these unnecessary parts where Rajat Kapoor came in(there were some where he was required too). All in all, I could just say that it was a very good time pass coz we only spent Rs. 100. And I should not forget to mention the free parking at IHC.

However, it must be said that I find it good to catch up with plays and theatre. I would like to be a more frequent visitor to new plays and enjoy the same. Just hope that the price per seat stays Rs. 50…:)

Dreams!

I am reminded today of these lines from a brilliant track called “eye of the tiger”. Check my vodpod videos to watch the entire song. I don’t want to dwell on why these lines hold importance to me today and why I want to seek some inspiration from the same.

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

The Music Therapy

Music has been a constant mate for me for the last few years. For me, there are a number of occasions when it throws me from one mood zone to other whenever I so desire. It is such a powerful tool to charge you up when you are up for a contest. I still remember when a good friend always used to play the song “Final Countdown” to get into the mood to go and smash everything that came his way in volleyball matches. The song just charged him up to get going and give his energetic best.

Music works as a similar therapy to me as well. When on my way back after a long day in office and a longer day on the roads I use music to hit me back into the zone. I come back home a lot fresher when I listen to some classic hit numbers or some country music. So many times I would have been singing along “Wonderwall” in my car from the last red light I face on the road to my home. By the time I reach home I seem to have left all the bad times in the day aside. Sometimes when my mind is wandering too many places, it works fantastically well to listen to some soothing numbers. Or sometimes, music gets me into a festive mood when I play some good and peppy numbers at a loud(er) volume.

Where I am drawing to is that music tends to take your mind away from its current state and puts you in the mood as per the occasion. There is something that engrosses you so much that you tend to float with the tempo. Broadly speaking, I feel music can work as an excellent way to get people doing what you want them to. I am reminded of how my batchmates used to find it amazing the way Prof Debashish Chatterjee used to play soft music in the background and still manage to grab all the attention. I am inclined to believe that the music actually aided in grabbing all the attention. (I was unlucky not to have attended a single session by him). I personally have not been to a spa but am sure they would be using music as a therapy along with all the massages and oils that they use to soothe one down.

All in all, music for me has been a big aide in helping me suit my behaviour to the situation. It keeps me going. It soothes, it questions, it relieves, it provokes and it changes me as and how I wish to. Right away I am listening to some sanskrit chants(it is 7:30 in the morning) and my mind relaxes even more as I listen to them. What are you listening to?

Status Quo

For the last two years, I have been telling a number of people that I want to leave my job and get going into either a nascent sector or get working on a business idea. Obviously, i have not been able to do the same till now and I am sure all my friends now have started doubting how much do I really want to do that. The big problem here is that I haven’t found something that is suitable to be starting off with right now. One business idea I have but have made no progress in terms of continuing with the same. While I am writing this I must also declare myself open to discussions on new business ideas (where people think I might be a good fit) or even startups which require individuals to take the business forward to the next level.

Certain sectors which I feel have the stem to zoom ahead in the near future are 1. Education 2. Entertainment 3. E Commerce. The next 10-20 years could see a number of flourishing businesses in the 3E sectors(3Es makes it sound interesting I think :D). We have already started seeing a number of businesses doing well in the education sector and I have a reason to believe that there is loads of value to be added within the same. Entertainment is clearly a consumption story. This morning only I came to know that a tamil film(think the name is dashavtar) has been made on a budget of 150 crores!!! The third E sector- ecommerce is an opportunity waiting to be harnessed. The simple figure of how many people are now using credit cards online could be a case in the making. Or for that sake the success of businesses like travel sites or even irctc.co.in make the case even stronger. All in all I would be wanting to look at options in these areas. However, new ideas in various other fields might also interest me depending upon the potential in terms of being able to add value somewhere in the chain.

I have contemplated number of times to just jump into the waters and get going with it but haven’t been able to do so. The reason being certain responsibilities I have taken unto myself to cater to and more importantly the lack of an idea where I have extremely strong conviction in terms of sustainability(still exploring the same for the idea I am working on currently).

To have sustained myself would have become even tougher if I were in a profile that did not give as much freedom as Private banking does. In spite of whatever cribs I might have, Pvt Banking does give an individual the scope of doing things his/her way[without too much use of brains 😦 ]. Anyways, I am looking forward to what lies in the store ahead of me. Hope for the best!

Given the title of the post, I would recommend everyone to listen to the song “In The Army Now” -by this band called status quo. Go on -Enjoy. Click here to go to youtube to listen to the same.

Lose yourself!

The more I listen to it, more I like it. Eminem at his best. Listen to the good ol song at “Lose yourself-Eminem”.

Lyrics from http://www.loglar.com, video at youtube. Rap on…

Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

Verse 1

Yo, his palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There is vomit on his sweater already
Moms forgettin’ he’s nervous
But on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drops bombs, but he keeps on forgetting
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth but the words won’t come out
He’s choking, how? Everybody’s jokin’ now
The clock’s run out, time’s up, over BLOW!
Snap back to reality, oh there goes gravity
Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked, he’s so mad
But he won’t give up that easy, no he won’t have it
He knows his whole back’s to these ropes
It don’t matter, he’s dope, he knows that
But he’s broke, he’s so sad that he knows
When he goes back to this mobile home
That’s when it’s back to the lab again, yo
This whole rhapsody, better go capture this moment
And hope it don’t collapse on him

You better lose yourself in the music
The moment you own it you better never let it go, oh
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
Cuz opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo
You better lose yourself in the music
The moment you own it you better never let it go, oh
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
Cuz opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo
You better

Verse 2

Soul’s escapin’ through this hole’s that is gaping
This world is mines for the taking
Make me king as we move toward a new world order
A normal life is boring
But superstardom’s close to post mortem
It only grows harder, homie grows hotter
He blows us all over, these hoes is all on him
Coast to coast shows, he’s known as the Globetrotter
Lonely roads got him
He knows he’s grown farther from home, he’s no father
He goes home and barely knows his own daughter
But hold ya nose cuz here goes the cold water
These hoes don’t want him no mo’, he’s cold prada
They moved on to the next shmo who flows
Who nose dove and sold nada
And so the so proper
His toll, it unfolds and I suppose it’s old, partner
But the beat goes on
Duh duh doe, duh doe, dah dah dah dah

Verse 3

No more games, I’ma change for due called rage
Tear this muthafuckin’ roof off like two dogs caged
I was playin’ in the beginnin’, the mood all changed
I’ve been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage
But I kept rhymin’ and stepped writin’ the next cipher
Best believe somebody’s payin’ the pied piper
All the pain inside amplified by the
Fact that I can’t get by with my nine to five
And I can’t provide the right type of life for my family
Cuz, man, these goddamn food stamps don’t buy diapers
And there’s no movie, there’s no Mekhi Pfifer
This is my life and these times are so hard
And it’s gettin’ even harder tryin’ to feed and water
My seed plus teeter-totter
Caught up between bein’ a father and a pre-madonna
Baby momma drama, screamin’ on her
Too much for me to wanna stay in one spot
Another damn or not has gotten me to the point
I’m like a snail, I’ve got to formulate a plot
Or end up in jail or shot
Success is my only muthafuckin’ option, failure’s not
Momma love you but this trailer’s got to go
I cannot grow old in Salem’s Lot
So here I go, it’s my shot
Feet fail me not
Cuz maybe the only opportunity that I got

Duh doo
You can do anything you set your mind to, man

One

U2 have come out with some brilliant tracks and this ‘One’ (pun intended) has become my recent favourite. The lyrics are very nice, singing better and the song is all over my I Pod now a days. If you haven’t heard it, click on the link below, and do remember to thank youtube.

One- U2 (click here to listen)

Lyrics :

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say…

One love
One life
When it’s one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it’s…

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We’re one, but we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One…
Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it’s all I got
We’re one
But we’re not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One…life

One
